Cool Websites

Insecure.Org – 2007-08-10

Insecure provides links to many hacker articles, and hacker tools.  These are for solely for the purpose of testing security of your own systems.  I found out that my Windows password (which contains eight random digits with numbers and mixed case) can be cracked in about thirty seconds flat, using any administrator account on the machine.  This website is very useful for anyone in the security industry.

ConsumerReports.org – 2007-08-09

Consumer reports provides end-user feedback for everything from cars to consumer electronics.  I check out their website before purchasing many of my consumer electronics.  They charge a subscription fee, but it is reasonable.

Wikipedia.com – 2007-08-09

If you haven’t already heard about Wikipedia, it is an encyclopedia that can be edited by anyone with internet access.  If I need information about a particular topic, Wikipedia is the first place to look.  Constant peer review helps to ensure high quality articles.

CNet.com – 2007-08-09

This site also provides excellent reviews on tech products.  I find that the user ratings are more accurate than the editor ratings…  They also own download.com, which contains an enormous library of useful software (including a decent amount of freeware).

Slashdot.Org – 2007-08-09

This site provides the latest in tech related news.  They avoid the CNN style pop sensations, and instead they link to interesting and novel stories from a number of other news sites.
